I thought this week might be a good time to dive into a subject that I briefly but regularly mention, and one that I feel deserves a little more attention. I also feel it is quite relevant to where we are in our journey at this time.
Let’s talk about the difference between Free Will and Divine Will.
What is Free Will?
In the simplest of terms, it is the ability to do whatever we want.
Here on Earth we may feel very controlled, by the situations of our lives, by the governments, by society, maybe even by our family or friends. But the truth is, there is nothing stopping us from doing pretty much anything. It is our morals, and the consequences of our actions that make us feel like we can’t.
The fact that we have Free Will is pivotal to our Soul evolution.
It gives us the freedom to make choices for ourselves, and to learn from the outcome.
Before we incarnate on Earth, we write within our Life Book to outline key events that will unfold in this lifetime in order to help us achieve our goals.
Our highest self, our guides, and even our reality as it is formed will work together to help manifest the situations required to help us experience those events. That might mean guiding you to being in the right place at just the right time, or meeting a certain person who has agreed to help you with this aspect of your path, or even just helping you to learn some information that is important for your goals.
But when those opportunities present themselves, we have the choice as to whether to take action, or to go off in a different direction.
The truth is, whether consciously or not, we regularly do this. Fear being the most common reason.
Perhaps we see an opportunity, but the situation creates anxiety and we avoid it. If it is important, the opportunity will usually present itself for another try.
But if we actively decide, “I don’t want to do this thing”, then we have complete control to do so.
This is our life to do what we want with it.
This does also mean that there are certain rules about outside interference. Because this is our life, the teams of light will not intervene without our direct permission. The exception being if it is pre-agreed in our Life Book, but in these cases, we have accepted it, we just don’t remember doing so.
But what about Divine Will?
We can call this many things, but essentially it is God’s Will. Or we could call it Universal Order, or really anything you want.
This implies that there is another path, one led by Divine Intelligence. This is the one that we say is for our “highest good”.
Let’s be honest, we have a very limited view of reality from down here on Earth. Most of the time it feels like we are scrambling around in the dark doing our best to guess what direction to go in.
But God, or the Universe, or Source, or whatever you want to call it, is not only omnipresent, but omniscient. It knows everything. It knows our life plan, it knows our soul, it knows our past, our present and future. It knows the same for everyone around us. It knows all.
Why wouldn’t it be able to come up with a better plan for us than our own?
Let’s be honest again, if someone showed up in front of us and handed us a plan for what we should do with our lives, wouldn’t we jump for joy? The uncertainty in life is what makes it so scary.
To have a plan that you know is going to be amazing for us should bring so much peace.
Well this is Divine Will.
The problem we have though is, we can’t see the person in front of us. And what they do give us is just step 1 of the plan. It is missing the next hundreds if not thousands of steps.
We can’t see the destination.
Only the direction.
What we are asked to do is have faith that Divine Will is the best path for us and just surrender to it.
But that is scary.
As human beings we spend so much of our time and energy trying to control our lives, to limit the unknown in order to create some semblance of safety.
So why would we abandon that and give ourselves over to Divine Will?
You may have heard me say before that the spiritual path is a natural evolution from Free Will to Divine Will.
I honestly believe this to be true.
The further we move along the path, the more we release, the more we access our inner strength, and most importantly, the more powerful our inner knowing becomes.
From this place, it becomes pretty clear that what we have done in the past isn’t working for us and there is a better way.
We are guided towards both small moments, and big moments that require us to take leaps of faith, to let go and trust.
We do so, and we live to fight another day.
But thats the problem, isn’t it? We fight.
For many of us, that’s what life feels like.
A series of endless battles to try and find some balance, some peace amongst a sea of challenges.
Here is the truth that is unfolding as I am being guided through this message today:
For many of us, to live from Free Will is to second guess, to be anxious of the future, to live in uncertainty.
But hang on a second, didn’t I say that the challenge with accepting Divine Will is that we don’t see the whole plan? Therefore we have to accept uncertainty.
So why do we accept uncertainty when it is our choice, but not when it is an omniscient being who is telling us “if you do this, things will work out”?
Is it because deep down there is a part of us that still doubts?
As humans, are we hardwired to be skeptical about what we can’t see with our eyes?
Is it because when it is our choice, we don’t have a choice, because we can’t see ahead? But Divine Will gives us a choice…
Or is it something unique to each of us, to our own journey that has led us to this place?
I wish I had an answer for you. I wish I had an answer for myself.
But I will leave you this question to ponder as you move through your week.
I want to end by saying Divine Will vs Free Will is not a definitive choice. We don’t have to hand over every single aspect of ourselves to it and relinquish 100% of control in one go.
We can start operating through Divine Will in small areas of our lives, and allow it to grow.
The key is to trust in your inner knowing. Trust your intuition. Use all the tools that you have been developing throughout this journey and follow the path you are guided towards.
Remember, Free Will gives you the choice, to choose Divine Will.
Sending you all so much love
David 🙏💛
